Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays to all of you!

We have been quite busy this holiday season. First we celebrated Thanksgiving with Chris' parents and then his birthday about 2 hours later. Most of the day was spent playing with his new toy- Guitar Hero World Tour. Everyone took a turn, including his parents! We all had a great time. Then we all opened our first christmas presents- Mom has been busy sewing matching pjs for all of us! I've always wanted matching christmas jammies and this year I was crazy enough to do something about it.

Anyway, we had our neighborhood food drive, then took the girls to see Santa- Mikayla was fine but Alyssa held onto Daddy's leg for dear life. For the first time in the 5 years we've been in our ward I attended the Relief Society Christmas dinner and the next night we went to the Library to see Mrs. Santa Claus at a special story time. Alyssa may not like Santa but she loves Mrs. Claus and her books! The next night we went to Savior of the World with Rebecca's Grandmother at the conference center. It was a great night and the spirit was very strong and warm. It is a great reminder of the reason for the season. We've also attended Rebecca's annual Christmas in the Grove choir performance, made gingerbread houses with the Krohns, decorated our tree, and attended our ward Christmas breakfast. PHEW!
Like I said its been busy but a lot of fun. This is Kayla's first Christmas and the first one were Alyssa is starting to understand something about the holidays. She always wants to buy and make people presents and then there's the constant request for "Jingle Bells". She is loving the children Christmas movies and playing with her friends making Christmas crafts. We can't wait for our first Christmas at home!

August 22, 2008

Welcome one and all to my new blog! I've heard such ravings from so many people that I thought I would try out the blog scene and see what all the fuss is about.

This past week has been a great one for the Wood family. Rebecca's family- Dad, Mom, Tommy, Emily and Linda, at least- came for a visit and to meet Mikayla. Alyssa was so excited all day on Friday waiting for them to come and was seriously disappointed when she woke from her nap and they still weren't here. But finally they arrived and Alyssa went straight to Grandpa and didn't leave his side all night I don't think. They were immediately playing "ding dong" and reading stories. Mikayla on the other had decided Grandma was her best bet and snuggled right up to her, much to Grandma's suprise and delight.
Saturday was busy because we had to get ready for the baby blessing and BBQ the next day, but the family went right to work and did an excellent job! Thanks you guys!

Sunday turned out great and I think/hope everyone had a great time. Mikayla actually had all of her living great-grandparents at the blessing which was very special to us. Afterwards we had a BBQ at our house and thank heavens the weather not only cooperated, but was very pleasant for August.

Monday we hang out and played at the park and the family went to Heber to visit Mom's brother Bryan and his family. Tuesday we went to Thanksgiving Point to see the dinosaur museum but there was a line around the block! Alyssa had been saying the whole time how she wanted to take Grandpa to see dinosaurs and she was disappointed the line was too long. We went to Farm Country instead where she and grandpa fed the animals. Then we went to Dad's sister Ev's and visited for the afternoon.

Wednesday morning Alyssa and Grandpa went back to the dinosaur museum so she could show him everything she has learned about dinosaurs- which is a lot for a 2 year old! Then, sadly, they had to leave to get back to Texas and try to get settled into their little apartment.

But that is when Aunt Jenny entered the picture. She had been in SLC for the last couple of days and decided to come stay with us for 2 days before she had to leave. Alyssa had a blast playing with her and enjoying the silly new books Aunt Jenny brought her. We went shopping with Jenny and rode the carousel at the mall, which Alyssa could have ridden all day.

Friday morning Aunt Jenny had to leave and then we were off to the Krohns for the monthly play date with Rebecca's high school friends, Kalenn and Bethany and their kids, Liesel, Kaiser, Kyle and Alex. Alyssa loved playing in the dirt at Kalenn's house and then playing all afternoon with the other kids- she is soooooo social! I don't know where she gets it from.

The other adventure of note this week was that Aly got her first haircut. Thursday night I heard her in the hallway outside my bedroom. She had gone downstairs to get some crayons to color with and I guess she found something else. When I heard what I thought were scissors I asked "Alyssa, do you have scissors?" to which she replied "I cut with scissors." I came out of my room to take them away only to be appalled at what I saw. There on the stairs and landing sat my 2 year-old with a pair of hair cutting scissors in one hand and lock after lock of golden blond ringlets all over the floor! I hate to admit it, but I lost it! She had cut most of the top of her head of hair and quite a bit of the right side!

Once I stopped crying Chris suggested I call my neighbor Laura and see if there was anything she could do to salvage it (Laura is a hair stylist). So the sweetheart that she is had us come right over at 8:00pm and tried her best to make lemonade out of lemons. She did a pretty good job and now as long as I style it as she suggested I can mask the disaster pretty well. Thank you Laura!
